rumour has it

a hero greater than superman

stronger.comicbookmovie.com reported that director Peter Berg and producers Will Smith, Akiva Goldman and Michael Mann have expressed interested in, and have begun discussing ideas for a potential sequel to 2008’s Hancock. Hancock was the movie that turned the tables on the superhero genre. Hancock was a fresh idea of what a superhero would be in reality, he was a burnt-out, belligerent, boozing superhuman, who honestly tried to help but ultimately caused more damage in the process. It was a unique take on the superhero genre. The movie took us through the rehabilitation of Hancock, from a drunken flying unwanted superhero to a sober clear-headed needed superhero.
The movie was a hit at the box office, grossing over $624 million worldwide. It is understandable that the filmmakers would want to franchise; there is much interest in working on HANCOCK 2. The trouble with making a sequel of the movie is that a great part of the background story was given in the first movie. Where the filmmakers decide to take the story line is more interesting than whether or not they’ll actually make the movie. One of the many potential problems with making the sequel is that; Hancock suffers from the superman syndrome, he is invincible and ultimately immortal, well as long as he keeps a safe distance from Mary (Charlize Theron). Whenever Hancock (Will Smith) is close to Mary he begins to turn into a human being, both Mary and Hancock lose their super powers. No matter how far Mary tries to get from Hancock, Hancock always finds her, in a strange way he is mysteriously attracted to her.
The only course of action I see the sequel taking is, having a convoluted sequence of conversations where they try to explain why Hancock is suddenly losing his invincibility. “oh no Hancock didn’t I tell you not to stand in front of microwave ovens? Darn!! ” either way if they ever finally decide on deciding to make HANCOCK 2, it will be an interesting watch. (crosses fingers!!!!)

SPIDER-MAN 4-LOP

"The Aamazing Spider-Man" this is what Marvel Comics is going to call the fourth Spider-Man movie. The movie is kind of a remake of the first Spider-Man movie only this time, they are coming at us with a different angle. The movie is more of the “untold story” of Spider-man’s younger years, Marvel and Sony do stress that a lot, it takes us through how Peter Parker discovered and explored his new found super powers, the first villain he encounters in this movie is the lizard Dr. Connors’ alter ego. Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) is on a quest to find out what happened to his parents Richard and Mary Parker (Campbell Scott; Embeth Davidz).
The entire cast has been recast and some new characters have been added for this fourth movie in the franchise, they changed everything from Peter Parker himself to the tights he wears. Peter’s love interest Mary-Jane has been replaced with Gwen Stacey (Emma Stone) in this version of the movie, you get the feeling that the movie makers are trying to show Parker as a more developed character as opposed to some skinny kid who just happened to get bit by a mutant spider that gave him super powers. As a Spider-Man fan I get the sense that Sony and Marvel are pretending that the last three movies did not exist…
This stunt by the Spider-Man franchisors does not inspire much confidence in the franchise itself; it has most probably lost its loyal client base, this discourages loyal fans who had grown to love Tobey Maguire’s ugly face from going to watch the movie, I for one am willing to wait for the DVD. The official “The Amazing Spider-Man” website (www.theamazingspiderman.com) has only but trailors, photo’s and the release date for the movie, can you say bad PR. This movie has to be the least anticipated movie in the history of least anticipated movies since the singing chipmunks movie or “DARK KNIGHT RISES” (Batman).
